3 Tips for Getting Ahead of Spring Allergies
After the cold, dark days of winter, spring’s arrival is usually a time to celebrate and get outdoors. Spring is right around the corner and some of us are dreading the yearly onset of allergy symptoms. At Care Station Medical Group, our healthcare providers understand the frustration that comes with not being able to finally get outside after a long winter because of spring allergies. Here are some tips for getting ahead of your allergies this year.
1. Start Spring Cleaning
Sweep out the winter cobwebs and get ahead on your spring cleaning. A deep spring clean includes dusting everything from the light fixtures to the bookcases, washing curtains, sweeping floors and rugs, and even vacuuming furniture. This will help prevent symptoms from starting due to the dust and pollen inside your home.
Similarly, keeping the windows in your car and in your home closed stops these tiny particles from entering your safe zone. You might also want to wash your clothes more often during the springtime!
2. Track the Pollen Levels in Your Location
Tracking the days when your allergies are worse can help you plan accordingly. Check your local TV or radio station, your local newspaper, or the internet for pollen forecasts and current pollen levels. Also, avoid outdoor activity in the early morning when pollen counts are highest.
3. Take Your Medication Earlier Than You Might Think
If high pollen counts are forecasted, start taking allergy medications before your symptoms start. Several types of nonprescription medications can help ease allergy symptoms. Most seasonal allergy symptoms can also be treated by an urgent care doctor or our healthcare providers. Going to urgent care for a non-emergency illness or injury is more convenient than going to your primary care doctor and more affordable than going to the emergency room. If your allergies are mild to moderate and are not making it difficult for you to breathe, you can go to urgent care to help you maintain your symptoms through medications.
If you suffer from seasonal allergies and want to get ahead of the symptoms this year, try these three tips. Care Station Medical Group can help you treat your non-life-threatening allergies. Give us a call today for more information on our services.
